“We are concerned by the recent increase in armed violence against civilians and call on all political and community leaders to lend their voices to peace and to work together to find lasting solutions to these rural conflicts. “We join President Buhari and others in sending our deepest condolences to the affected communities, and in the desire to see the perpetrators brought to justice and to prevent further violence," Nauert said.

According Terna Tyopev, the public relations officer of the Police Command in Plateau, 50 houses, two cars and 15 motorcycles were burnt in the attacks by herders. The herdsmen were reported to have invaded Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi local government area where the deaths occurred. The Plateau government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South local government areas following the attacks.

President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the attacks, describing the incident as “very painful and regrettable," and warned that the government would not rest until the assailants were brought to justice.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) gave reasons why herdsmen attacked mourners in Plateau state, killing over 120 people and causing serious injuries to hundreds others. The chairman, north central zone of the organisation, Danladi Ciroma, who condemned the attacks, however, claimed the people were killed in retaliation to the killings of about 300 cows belonging to the herdsmen.

10 AREAS OF APPLICATION OF COMPUTER

Daily base info.blogspot.com is a good site for consultation and visitation for students assignment and other necessary information based on global issues. AREAS OF APPLICATION OF COMPUTER (1) IN BUSINESS: Businessmen make bar graphs and pie charts from tedious figures to convey information with far more impact than numbers alone can covey. Furthermore, computers help businesses to predict their future sales, profits, costs etc. making companies more accurate in their accounts. Computers may also play a vital role in aiding thousands of organizations to make judgmental and hard-provoking decisions concerning financial problems and prospective trends. (2) IN BUILDING Architects use computer animated graphics to experiment with possible exteriors and to give clients a visual walk-through of their proposed buildings. The computers provide architects a numerous amount of facilities to create different buildings with greater accuracy, better designing and editing tools, and work done at the fastest speed possible. Finally, a new kind of artist has emerged, one who uses computers to express his or her creativity. (3) IN EDUCATION Most good schools in the world have computers available for use in the classroom. It has been proved that learning with computers has been more successful and this is why numerous forms of new teaching methods have been introduced. This enhances the knowledge of the student at a a much faster pace than the old traditional methods. Likewise, colleges and various universities have extended the use of computers as many educators prefer the 'learning by doing' method - an approach uniquely suited to the computer. (4) ENERGY Energy companies use computers to locate oil, coal, natural gas and uranium. With the use of these technological machines, these companies can figure out the site of a natural resource, its concentration and other related figures. Electric companies use computers to monitor vast power networks. In addition, meter readers use hand held computers to record how much energy is used each month in homes and offices. (5) LAW ENFORCEMENT Recent innovation in computerised law enforcement include national fingerprint files, a national file on the mode of operation of serial killers, and computer modeling of DNA, which can be used to match traces from an alleged criminal's body, such as blood at a crime scene. In addition, computers also contain a complete databases of all the names, pictures and information of such people who choose to break the law. (6) TRANSPORTATION Computers are used in cars to monitor fluid levels, temperatures and electrical systems. Computers are also used to help run rapid transit systems, load containerships and track railroads cars across the country. An important part is the air control traffic systems, where computers are used to control the flow of traffic between airplanes which needs a lot of precision and accuracy to be dealt with. (7) BANK Computers speed up record keeping and allow banks to offer same-day services and even do-it yourself banking over the phone and internet. Computers have helped fuel the cashless economy, enabling the widespread use of credit cards, debit cards and instantaneous credit checks by banks and retailers. There is also a level of greater security when computers are involved in money transactions as there is a better chance of detecting forged cheques and using credit/debit cards illegally etc. (8) AGRICULTURE Farmers use small computers to help with billing, crop information, and cost per acre, feed combinations, and market price checks. Cattle ranchers can also use computers for information about livestock breeding and performance. (9) GOVERNMENT Among other tasks, the federal government uses computers to forecast the weather, to manage parks and historical sites, to process immigrants, to produce social security checks and to collect taxes. The most important use of the computer system in in this field is perhaps the Army, the Air Force and the Navy. The computers have to be very powerful and in order to be run they have to be very accurate and precise. E.g. in the use of missiles and other likes, every nanosecond counts, which may save trillions of lives on this planet. The government also uses computers in various simulations like the spread of influenza in a particular locality. (10) AT HOME People having a computer in the home justifies the fact that it is not only useful and efficient, but it is also revered as a learning system. Personal computers are being used for innumerous tasks nowadays, for example, to keep records, write letters and memos, prepare budgets, produce presentations, draw pictures, publish newsletters and most importantly - connect with other in the rest of plant earth . (11) HEALTH SECTORS Computers are helping immensely to monitor thee extremely ill in the intensive care unit and provide cross-sectional views of the body. This eliminates the need for hired nurses to watch the patient twenty-four hours a day, which is greatly tiring and error prone. Doctors use computers to assist them in diagnosing certain diseases of the sort. This type of computer is called the Expert System, which is basically a collection of accumulated expertise in a specific area of field. Computers are now able to map, in exquisite detail, the structure of the human cold virus - the first step towards the common cold. Furthermore, computers are used greatly in managing patients, doctors, wards and medicine records, as well as deal with making appointments, scheduling surgeries and other likes. (12) MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY Computers have made their way towards jobs that were unpleasant or too dangerous for humans to do, such as working hundreds of feet below the earth or opening a package that might contain an explosive device. In other industries, computers are used to control the production of resources very precisely. All robots and machinery are now controlled by various computers, making the production process faster and cheaper. All the stages of manufacturing, from designing to production, can be done with the use of computer technology with greater diversity . (13) HUMAN CONNECTION The computers have evolved in such prosperity that it is now able to assist or aid with humans who are disabled - both physically and mentally. The handicapped are now able to express their missing sense with the aid of computer technology. For example, a deaf and dumb person is able to communicate extensively with other people by using a specially designed computer system. This gives the disabled a chance to live out life and gradually catch up with the other fortunate people living on earth. (14) IN RESEARCH This is very important for mankind and with the development of computers; scientific research has propelled towards the better a great deal. Because of high-speed characteristics of computer systems, systems, researchers can simulate environments, emulate physical characteristics and allow scientists to proof of their theories in a cost-effective manner. Also many test lab animals are spared since computers have taken over their roles in extensive research. (15) COMMUNICATION The computes are most popular for their uses to connect with others on the World Wide Web. Therefore, communication between two or more parties is possible which is relatively cheap considering the old fashioned methods. Emailing, teleconferencing and the use of voice messages are very fast, effective and surprisingly cheaper as well. When connected to the Internet, people can gain various amounts of knowledge, and know about world events as they occur. Purchasing on the Internet is also becoming very popular, and has numerous advantages over the traditional shopping methods. (16) TRAINING It is much more cheaper and effective to teach pilots how to fly in a computerised cockpit or simulators, than is real airplanes. This is because the learning pilots will feel much more relaxed and confident due to the fact that no life is at risk at that moment. Railway engineers can also be given some kind of training on how to run a train with the help of a computerised system. Training simulations are relatively cheaper and are always available on one-to-one basis making way for personal training. (17) PAPER WORK Computer systems will increasingly cut down the paperwork that is involved in millions of industries around the world. If a business is run on a manual system, then the amount of papers or registers involved is a great deal, making the administration process more tedious and error prone. If it is replaced by a computer system, then all the necessary data and information is transferred into the memory of the computer. This makes managing various tasks easier, faster and more effective than the manual system. Organisations that involve administrative tasks such as a hotel, school, hospitals, clubs, libraries etc. will become more efficient if a computer system is implemented. (18) REAL TIME SHARING Many computers provide an environment, which is completely based on real time. This means processing of one entity is done so quickly and effectively, that another entity is not effected. For example Airline systems and Banking systems will come under this category. These systems are immensely huge because they interact with all other airlines or baking systems in the world. A computer system, therefore, becomes more than just necessary in daily uses. There are so many applications of computers, that it is impractical to mention all of them. This is the Computer Age and these machines are beginning to affect out lives in many ways. Computers are now becoming faster, more reliable, effective and whole lot cheaper than they had been ever before.

The major difference between a COMPUTER and a TYPEWRITER

Posted by: Nnaji Ifeanyi Michael Kings Date: 20th of may 2018 Time:2:40pm A computer on its own cannot print: it requires an external device to print A computer printer is useless without a computer to drive it, but a typewriter is self-contained While modern typewriters are electric, the majority of typewriters for decades were manual - no electricity required. A computer cannot function with electricity of some description (including batteries) A typewriter creates the letters by pressing ink through a ribbon The computer is well known, whereas a typewriter has never been seen by some of the younger generation Some forms of modern typewriter can "erase" mistakes: no printer has this function because it can all be controlled through the computer Expanded answer All of the above. A typewriter is completely autonomous in that anyone can use it without having to know anything about menus and settings and preferences, and without needing any kind of experience or knowledge of specific programs. It is a machine in the true sense of the word... a MECHANICAL device requiring certain effort or imput on the part of the operator, in order to perform its function. A computer on the other hand is NOT mechanical, it is electronic; a series of electrical impulses transmitted through various microchips and P.S.Bs replaces the typeface-to-key-linkages of the typewriter. A "false" visual interpretation (the screen) replaces the more traditional direct-to-paper approach, and for this reason makes pre-print editing possible without the production of one or more draft copies. A computer is also capable of making calculations and some decisions WITHOUT the direct imput or effort of the operator, in fact, some computers do not require operators at all, only maintenance personel. (they have not learned to fix themselves yet, thankfully!) No matter how advanced a typewriter is, it can never be capable of making any kind of calculation other than those required to produce a visual representation of letters on an LCD display (if you have a REALLY fancy electric one!) If you could connect a computer keyboard directly to a printer you would have an electric typewriter. This became the rich-mans typewriter, or poor-mans computer some years ago, but is now primarily used in secretarial work and notation / short hand. Others: A typewriter cannot be programmed to act in a certain fashion and without specific input from the operator You cannot play games on a typewriter You cannot access the internet or send email with a typewriter, neither can it be connected to a telephone line (A TELEX machine, however can be) A typewriter cannot form its own logical deductions based on input from the operator, and requires every decision to be made for it. A typewriter cannot correct obvious errors without input from the operator. It does not recognise when an error has been made and presumes every action is deliberate. A typewriter is not multi-functional as a computer. Typewriters are only used to type up things neatly onto a sheet of paper, but a computer can be used for surfing the web, learning, communicating and entertainment. Bukola saraki is on a Holt seat now as he is preparing to face the panel for declaring IG unfit to hold any public office in Nigeria.

BREAKING news: Posted by Nnaji Ifeanyi Michael Kings Last views:21'363 Last comment:12,425 Last update:39 mins ago ABUJA, Nigeria – A Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Debo Adeleke today dragged President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and others to a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, for declaring the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr Ibrahim Idris Kpotum ‘unfit to hold position in and outside Nigeria and an enemy of democracy’. Joined as co-respondents are the Senate and Deputy Senate President, Mr. Ike Ekweremadu. In the suit delineated ABJ/CS/566/2018, the applicant is seeking an order declaring the National Assembly, Saraki and Ekeremadu as not a court of law and therefore, lacked jurisdiction and to declare IGP personal non grata and unfit to hold public office within and outside Nigeria and an enemy of democracy. The lawyer also sought a declaration that the power of the Senate of National Assembly to invite a public officer under its power of investigation in Section 88 of 1999 Constitution (as amended), is limited and it is only to enable it to: make laws with respect to any matter within its legislative competence and correct and defect in the existing laws; and expose corruption, inefficiency or waste in execution or administration of laws within its legislative competence and in the disbursement or administration of funds appropriated by it. The applicant also sought a declaration that even though, the Senate of National Assembly lack the requisite vires to summon the IGP as declared above, the IGP was ably represented by Deputy Inspector-General of Police by virtue of Section 312(1) of Police Act and Regulation, law made by National Assembly and that the invitation of IGP over the arrest and arraignment of Senator Dino Melaye is subjudice and undue interference with police Constitutional power of investigation, arrest and arraignment of suspects. In a 27 paragraph affidavit to support his originating summon, Adeleke averred that he instituted the suit to defend and uphold the sanctity of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, noting that it is of public interest. According to him, what prompted the suit was the Senate declaration of the IGP, Mr. Ibrahim Idris Kpotum a ‘persona non grata’, unfit to hold public position within and outside Nigeria, and enemy of democracy due to the IGP’s inability to personally honour Senate invitation to appear before it. He also stated that the said declaration was made consequent upon IGP’s inability to appear personally before the Senate plenary on three consecutive times to explained the circumstances surrounding the arrest of one of its members, Dino Melaye and killing across the Nigeria. The applicant also stated that the summons of the IGP by the Senate on three occasions, which the IGP was unable to attend due to being on special assignment with President Buhari, and that non appearance of the IGP on the last summoned date, May 9, 2018, led the Senate to declare him a personal non grata, unfit to hold public position, and enemy of democracy. He also stated that summoning IGP over the arrest and arraignment of Dino Melaye, is an undue interference with police operation and duties of investigation, arrest and arraignment of suspects and that the Senate interrogation of IGP over the arrest and arraignment of Senator Dino Melaye, a matter subject of litigation is tantamount to usurpation of judicial powers of the judiciary, another independent arm of government. He averred that the IGP out of respect sent DIG Operations to represent him at Senate plenary but was denied representation by Senate, and that he knows that DIG Operations is competent under police act, a law made by the same National Assembly to represent the IGP.

High Court in Owerri, the Imo state capital, has sentenced Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, founder of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), to prison custody, New Telegraph reports.

The court order, which was served on the police last Thursday, June 14, signed by J.C. Okoro Esq. and dated Wednesday, June 6, indicates that Uwazuruike will be in prison custody for one month for contempt of court.

Upon reading through the Motion On Notice filed on July 6, 2017, praying for an order of court to commit the plaintiff in the substantive suit, Uwazuruike, to prison for disobeying the order of court made on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 and after due consideration of the unchallenged oral evidence of the 1st defendant, Chigozie Iheama and exhibits tendered in the contempt proceedings, the presiding judge, Justice Kemakolam Ojiako, ruled that:

“The plaintiff, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is hereby found guilty of contempt to the said order of court made on April 2, 2014.

“That the plaintiff, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is hereby sentenced to prison custody and shall be so detained for a period of one month from the date of his commitment to prison.” READ ALSO: US-based Nigerian woman declares for presidency under PDP The judge further re-strained Uwazuruike, his agents and proxies from entering into the said land subject matter until the suit is determined. Uwazuruike had dragged Iheama to court in 2013 over a land transaction issue in suit No. HOW/265/2013.

According to Iheama, from 2013 to 2017 that the case was on, Uwazuruike had refused to appear in court in a matter he is the plaintiff. He also added that before the matter was transferred to the present court, the former judge, Justice Florence Duruoha Igwe, was hearing contempt proceedings against Uwazuruike for defying the orders of court for parties to maintain status quo and commencing building on the disputed land. Iheama alleged that plots by the MASSOB leader to frustrate justice did not stop when the matter was transferred to the court of Justice Kemakolam Ojiako.

“Consequent order of the court to seal the property by chaining and padlocking the gates was subverted by Uwazuruike who instead removed the gate and sealed up the area with a block wall, making it impossible for court officials to enforce the order,” he said. Uwazuruike had, however, argued that he was not under obligation to be in court as the case was a civil matter, but Iheama differed, saying that the case at hand was the contempt proceedings and not the substantive suit.

He said every contempt proceeding is considered in law as a quasi-criminal matter. Counsel to Uwazuruike, Emma Chukwuka, maintained that the order to jail the MASSOB leader was an abuse of court process as his client had since appealed against the hearing of the suit, but the presiding judge, Justice Kemakolam Ojiako, had insisted on continuing hearing on the matter. While Justice Ojiako noted in his ruling that “the substantive proceeding is adjourned to the July 10, 2018, to await the outcome of the Motion for Stay of proceedings,” counsel to the MASSOB leader, Emma Chukwuka, said that hearing on the appealed suit comes up on Tuesday, October 2.
